Dirk,
GLNs could still be used in pedigrees as identifiers for the ShipToLocationCode and ShipToLocationCode elements. In my opinion, this would improve pedigree interoperability by standardizing these elements. However, it would also most likely require pedigree participants to update their in-house master data to map GLNs to existing customer/vendor records. I would also assume that not every pedigree participant (secondary wholesalers, kitters, etc.) has a GLN for all their locations. So, there would certainly be some hurdles to overcome.
- Peter Monahan

James,
Right now the best authority for the use of GLN's for any purpose would be GS1 U.S. You can find contact information at http://www.gs1us.org/About/ContactUs/tabid/59/Default.aspx . You many also find some help from the GPO's who have established requirements for their suppliers to use GLN's and GTIN's in the near future. They include Amerinet, Premier, Novation and others. So far I'm not aware of any distributors establishing any requirements for GLN but you may want to contact them directly to find out their current positions on the subject.

You may find that it is still early in the evolution of the use of GLN in the supply chain, particularly for its use in rebates and contract pricing. If you have trouble finding individuals in these organizations who know anything about GLN's let me know privately and I may be able to provide you with some names.

Dirk.

Great post above. Where would I find out more regarding GLNs and the rebate / contract pricing world. I am interested in not only the provider and supplier side but also the distributor world of rebate / contract pricing and the application of GLNs to such.

Thanks . . . James Scribner
